Work Experience:
Godman has over 16 years experience in handling a wide range of advisory and litigation mandates.
Prior to the inception of Godman Law, Godman headed the Information Technology and Intellectual Property unit of one of the leading indigenous commercial law firms in Zimbabwe. He was simultaneously engaged in the Employment law department of the same law firm.
Godman is passionate about technology and making law easily accessible to the general public. In this pursuit, he has partnered with others in the technology sector to develop a free legal resource, http://www.law.co.zw.
Through being tech savvy, Godman has developed a reputation in the banking and insurance industry for being the ‘go to’ person for the drafting and review of software licensing and related service level agreements. He has performed similar work for Government departments and software licensing agents and developers. Recently, Godman has rendered local Intellectual Property, Data Privacy and Consumer Protection advice to one of the world’s leading music streaming service providers, having been instructed by a London based law firm.
Godman routinely registers trademarks with ZIPO and ARIPO and handles copyright depositions for both local, regional and international proprietors. He has also been involved in litigation on intellectual property matters in the superior courts of Zimbabwe.
Godman’s knowledge of Zimbabwean Labour Law remains significant having handled countless retrenchments and restructurings, disciplinary hearings, terminations and litigation from workplace level, Ministry level right through to the Labour Court and Supreme Court. He has advised key players in industry and commerce on employment law issues including banks, airlines, beverage manufacturers, food manufacturers, fertiliser and chemical manufacturers, NGOs, communications, telecommunications enterprises and Parastatals.
Recently, Godman has also embraced commercial and corporate law advice and litigation, as part of his areas of interest. Through his creativity Godman successfully shepherds his clients through difficult transactions.
