Zvobgo Tawanda Zvobgo
Tawanda is the firm’s Managing Partner.
He graduated top of his class from the law school at the Midlands State University, Gweru, Zimbabwe, where he received five prestigious awards, including the Law Society of Zimbabwe’s Best Law Student book prize. In addition to being a legal practitioner, he is also a registered conveyancer and notary public.
Tawanda has eight years’ experience in practice. He began his career as an associate at one of Zimbabwe’s leading corporate and commercial law firms where he focused on trade and investment mandates. Having been a keen participant in moot court competitions during his days in law school, Tawanda’s passion lies in court room advocacy. He has also had experience working as a legal officer for the South African Human Rights Commission and has several certificates in Human Rights Education obtained from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, as part of an international human rights exchange program.
Tawanda has built up his own practice centred around dispute resolution and offering specialist litigation services in the Magistrates, High, Supreme and Constitutional Courts of Zimbabwe, with particular focus on civil and commercial litigation ranging from medium to high profile disputes concerning local, regional and international clientele and involving widely varying subject matters including mining law, environmental law, insurance law, contract law, commercial law, construction law, real estate law, energy law, entertainment law, liquidations, judicial management, deceased estates, mergers and acquisitions, foreclosures and recoveries. Tawanda also has experience in alternative dispute resolution including arbitration and mediation, founded on his certificate obtained from the InterNational Academy of Dispute Resolution (INADR) at Loyola University Chicago School of Law, Illinois, United States of America.
Tawanda has a near absolute success record in debt recovery and foreclosure mandates where the he has represented some of the country’s leading banking institutions and has become the number one man for the bulk of Banks in Zimbabwe whenever it is necessary to foreclose on unpaid mortgages or other debt instruments. Tawanda is swift in his action and secures recovery in minimum time thereby preserving value for clients even in economically volatile times. Tawanda pays careful attention to his clients’ needs and uses his mastery to secure the most favourable results in the least possible amount of time.
Having become familiar with various kinds of financial instruments in the course of litigating and having been exposed to their weaknesses and shortcomings, Tawanda has taken a keen inclination towards corporate and commercial advisory work, helping clients to avoid the pitfalls that he has observed and assisting them to create agreements that do not easily leave them exposed.
Always willing push his boundaries, Tawanda is an assistant lecturer to the Retired Judge Mr Justice Moses Chinhengo at the Great Zimbabwe University’s Herbert Chitepo Law School in the department of procedural law, where he lecturers advanced civil procedure in the superior courts. He also lecturers mooting and advocacy, and coaches the law school’s moot court society, which has seen him lead the institution to various notable national, regional and international successes.
